Isaiah 5

20  Woe to those who call evil good
and good evil,
who put darkness for light
and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter!
21  Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes,
and shrewd in their own sight!

I see this too much. Even from people who name the Name of Christ, as Paul says, “in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons” (1 Timothy 4:1). He says in a later place, that these people have the appearance of godliness but deny its power (2 Timothy 3:5).

It is extremely important to be good students of God’s Word, and to get in community with believers who have a desire for the truth. The book of Acts tells us about a group of people who would receive the word with eagerness, but they would examine the Scriptures daily “to see if these things were so” (Acts 17:11). Even in a good church with sound doctrine, we need to search this stuff out for ourselves and not just take everything as truth because someone said so, but not be individualistic and isolate ourselves from others. The Gospel is meant to be lived out and understood in community.

These are the last days I believe, and it’s so important that we don’t become deceived. I’ve seen too many Christians allow it to happen to them and have “made shipwreck of their faith” (1 Timothy 1:19).

I don’t want to see this happen to you.
